When Nat arrived in Ohio from Thailand as an international student, he held excitement and nerves in both hands. Like many students new to the U.S., he wondered how he would adjust to life in a new country.
“I was nervous about making friends and finding my way,” Nat remembered.
Those worries began to ease when he discovered IFI through his ESL program in Cleveland, a connection that would quickly shape his experience.
During his very first week, IFI staff invited Nat into their home for dinner. Between food and games, strangers began to feel like friends. In addition, IFI helped Nat cross off a huge bucket list item: visiting Niagara Falls.
“I couldn’t believe I achieved a life-long dream so quickly!” Nat said. “And this was just the beginning…”
Through IFI, Nat joined a wide range of activities that allowed him to experience American culture firsthand. A fall getaway camping trip became a highlight, filled with campfires, games, and laughter.
“I wasn’t just learning through books anymore,” Nat shared. “I learned through real-life conversations and new American friends.”
Along the way, he met people who didn’t just host events, but genuinely invested in friendship and Biblical hospitality.
Looking back, Nat says IFI gave him far more than planned events– it gave him a true sense of belonging and a place he eagerly invites others to join:
“If you are an international student, join this community,” Nat said. “You will not only find fun activities, but a new family. It could even be the best part of your experience here!”
