God brought me to IFI through my experience of coming to the United States for university. As an international student, I was made aware of the realities of culture shock, homesickness, and loneliness. Amidst the hardships, the seed of fostering community within international groups was planted. Along the years, the seed began to grow; I was getting involved with my university’s international student union and had the privilege of being the Co-director of Multicultural Services for three years. Once I graduated, the seed kept flourishing, as I continued to carry my passion for international populations and those who yearn for belonging. So how I stumbled upon IFI, you ask? It was the combination of prayer and LinkedIn! I was looking for a new job, something that would bring a sense of fulfillment and purpose, something that would tie my dreams with peoples’ needs, something that would be close to my heart and own testimony that could bridge gaps and bring reconciliation. When I found the posting for IFI’s National Content Writer, it fit everything and more! I love the ministry’s mission and my role as a listener/composer in shining God’s light to the nations through international students’ stories.
Fun fact about me: I am a crazy, cultural mix! I was born in London, England + my mom is Italian (hence last name Villa) + my dad is Japanese Brazilian (hence last name Nakata) + I lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil most of my life + attended an American International Christian school in Sao Paulo + went to the US for college at Malone University in Canton, Ohio and have been here for 5 years now 🙂
