BT is a Midwest native from Mansfield, Ohio. With a love for all things international, she graduated from Miami University (1980) in Linguistics with a certificate in TESOL and a Masters in Intercultural Studies (1990) from Wheaton College. She taught ESL in Taipei and Taichung, Taiwan, and the City Colleges of Chicago before completing an internship at the University of Houston (1999) and beginning a career in international student advising.
In 2004, BT joined the Office of International Students and Scholars at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, where along with international student advising and training others in developing their intercultural competency skills, she created programs, activities and events for international students to feel welcomed and a part of the local community. For the past nine years BT managed the International Friendship Program at Purdue pairing international students with community host families for friendship, holidays and more! It has been a great joy for her to connect local singles and families with internationals and see them reap the benefits. Now as an IFI staff member, she is eager to see these opportunities for students multiplied and expanded in some new and significant ways.
