Connie came to Christ in her sophomore year at college in China, where she had spent a year doing bible study and attending family church before she decided to become a follower. God revealed Himself to her by His wise and gentle words, as well as the numerous experiences when she was completely overwhelmed by His love, mercy and grace. She is very grateful that God redeemed and restored her and her families.
After college, she came to U.S. for her master’s program in international affairs at Pennsylvania State University in 2012, where she was comprehensively involved in international students activities and mission trips. She served as the vice student president of International Christian Fellowship at Penn State. She discovered her passion in working with international campus ministry team. She is fascinated by the diversities and subtle influences one upon another. Working with international students is especially exciting to her because she sees every challenge as a gift from God to be open-minded and to make gospel known to all the nations. She likes to absorb their culture, thoughts, and experiences to enrich her understanding of how people from different background respond to the same message and same situation; Beyond that, how great is our God who creates all these uniquely different minds.
She worked as a youth camp counselor at Camp Krislund in Pennsylvania for the summer 2013. She learned to take care of others rather than focusing on herself because she was responsible for leading a team of 10 to 20 each week. She was in the charge of feeding them, giving them medicine on time, taking them to every outdoor activity, leading bible studies, and playing music in worship services, as well as coping with emergencies happening on daily basis. God molded her through trials and difficulties, trained her the characters like patience, perseverance, trust, sober mind and courage, which only got strengthened by being pulled toward the very end of her limits. In the summer 2014, she went for an internship about international development and cultural exchange in South Africa. The experiences working with international community reminded her that sacrificially serving others, regardless of boundaries, requires actions more than words and this is a good opportunity to live out her faith.
God equips her to do campus ministry through all different stages in her life. Enlightened by her cross-cultural experiences, she discovers her calling for international missionary when she had her master program in international affairs with research focus in international culture exchange and behavioral economics. Furthermore, she found her heart for international students specifically through multiple international conferences, retreat experiences, as well as daily devotional activities in her multinational life groups. She realizes what means “love conquers all”.
