My 1980 decision to start following Christ, at age 7, remains my best decision and it informs all others I make…
I have always treasured church and Bible study attendance through the years, and even in my early age I sensed God calling me to full-time ministry. Intervarsity Christian Fellowship involvement spoke to my heart of ministry as I coordinated speakers, led Bible studies, and led in music worship and skits. My calling was confirmed through a Promise Keepers Event, when God called me to attend Asbury Theological Seminary, graduating in 2001.
Visiting churches as we raised funds and prayer support was a great experience, allowing me to see faithful Christians contribute to our service overseas. Over ten years, the Lord would guide my work from the heat of Swaziland to the hills of Albania. After serving overseas, I found myself called into pastoral ministry and for ten years I led churches in both North Carolina and Illinois. Bi-vocational ministry has certainly been challenging these past 6 years, but it is a current reality allowing God to teach me to trust him more, as I serve my community as a much needed professional painter.
Perhaps like nowhere else, the nations have come to live in my midst with a quarter of the U of I student body. I pray that we will continually be able to minister to more of the 13,000 international students and scholars from many countries. I have volunteered with IFI events for the past 2 years, and have enjoyed encouraging the students, assisting in any way I can, and praying for their lives.
God has been so gracious!
