     New Student Welcome Activities- Summer/Fall 2013

Airport and Temp Housing Help needed now through August.

Students need a ride from the airport and housing for 1-4 days.  Click on this link to see a list of students who are signed up for help. (A small number of students arrive periodically throughout the year.)  Most of the new students begin to arrive in mid-July up until the beginning of Fall Semester on August 21st. *Must be a trained IFI Volunteer. Welcome Care Team - Help needed June -August

This is great way to get involved with IFI even if you're not a volunteer. Help us provide every new student a warm and helpful welcome by emailing with a handful of students. Sign up for more info by clicking here.  *No training or application required.

 

Welcome Gift Bags- Bags for the Nations- Sign up to help now or by July 10th

Individuals and Groups are needed to purchase or gather items prior to July 20th, prepare bags on July 20th, and/or handout bags at IFI welcome events in August. IFI hopes to give out 1,000 Welcome Gift Bags full of useful items to new international students. 10-15 groups needed.  If your group is interested, please E-mail Leila.  *No training or application required. IFI Welcome Picnic - Sunday August 11th

Prepare and drop off food dishes to serve 25 people.   Some people are needed to help before, during, and after the event. SIgn up available in July.  *No training or application required.

 

New Student Welcome Party- Thursday, August 15th

Come and meet new students, enjoy snacks, and watch or participate in line dancing. No food is needed this year. *No training or application required. Sign up available in July.

 

Used Furniture Shopping Day - Saturday & Sunday, Aug. 17th & 18th Sign up now.

Host a used furniture sale at your home or church, take international students shopping, help behind the scenes to pick up and deliver furniture, or donate furniture in advance of the UFSD. *To drive students you must be an IFI volunteer.  Other activities are open to non-volunteers, please sign up ahead of time here.

Meals for Friday Night Bible Studies Help needed every week!

If you love to cook and feed large groups of people, this could be the perfect service opportunity for you. Before Bible study on Friday nights, students and volunteers share a meal together. IFI is always in need of people to help organize, prepare and distribute food at these meetings. Please contact Tiria for more info. or to sign up. *Open to non-IFI volunteers.

 

English Conversation Partner

Would you be willing to build a friendship with an International student, by meeting weekly or bi-weekly to help them practice their English, learn about American culture, and more! THERE ARE STUDENTS WAITING TO BE MATCHED AND MORE WILL SIGN UP IN AUGUST. *Must be an IFI volunteer.

 

Friendship Partner
We are looking for individuals and families who are willing to meet with an international student or couple once a month for a meal or other activity. Invite then to join you in an activity you are already doing or plan something special to do together.  THERE ARE STUDENTS WAITING TO BE MATCHED AND MORE WILL SIGN UP IN AUGUST. *Must be an IFI volunteer.

 

Conversation, Culture & Cuisine

Looking for a way to get involved as a group? Have fun learning about other cultures and customs while showing hospitality and helping internationals practice speaking English. Time, place and transportation are arranged by your group. Training is provided for all group members. Multiple groups are needed with a minimum 3-month commitment. Click here for more info.     

 

English Conversation Club
This is a great opportunity to "get your feet wet" in ministry to internationals.  Meetings are held on Saturday mornings for 6 weeks each semester, so it isn't a long term commitment.  Come and talk with international students each week on a variety of topics, such as Friends, Family, Humor, Holidays.  No preparation is required.  *Must be an IFI volunteer.
