Easter Hosting

Sunday, April 8, 2012 – Invite one or more students to share Easter dinner with you and your family. Please be sure to sign up no later than March 15.

All volunteers and their spouses must first complete a background check before IFI will match volunteers for hosting or entertaining students in their home. Background checks may be completed HERE.

The Events listed below will begin Summer 2012- Please mark your calendar now. Sign ups will not happen until we get closer to the dates.  

Airport and temporary housing for Fall Semester

July 15th to August 15th- Please note:  OSU switches from a quarter system to semesters starting this summer. Fall Semester will begin on August 22nd

IFI Welcome Picnic

Wednesday, Aug 8th at High Banks Park in Lewis Center, from 6–9 pm. Bring a food dish to share and participate in lawn games and other outdoor activities.

This event will be held on a different date and location than in the past.

 

Used Furniture Sale

Saturday- Aug. 11th & Sun. Aug. 12th- Donate furniture, drive students to sales, host a sale at your home and/or church.  For more info. about hosting a sale contact Sally.

 

New Student Welcome Party

Saturday., Aug, 18th at the Ohio Union, 6-9 pm.  Come and meet new students, enjoy snacks, and watch or participate in line dancing. No food is needed this year.

Thanksgiving Meal Hosting

Nov. 22nd Invite one or more students to share dinner with you and your family.

Christmas Meal Hosting

Dec. 25th, Invite one or more students to share dinner with you and your family.

ONGOING NEEDS:

English Conversation Partner

Meet with an international student for an average of 1 hour per week to help them practice their English, learn about American culture, and more. Would you be willing to build a friendship with an international student? We have over 200 students waiting! This is among IFI's greatest needs right now. If you are already a volunteer, please consider serving a student or 2 in this way. Please contact Nathan immediately to get matched and begin meeting with a student.

 

Friendship Partner
We are looking for volunteers and families who are willing to meet with an international student or couple once a month for a meal or other activity. Invite then to join you in an activity you are already doing or plan something special to do together.

 

Meals for Friday Night Bible Studies

If you love to cook and feed large groups of people, this could be the perfect service opportunity for you. Before Bible study on Friday nights, students and volunteers share a meal together. IFI is always in need of people to help organize, prepare and distribute food at these meetings. Please contact Leslie for more info.

 

Conversation, Culture & Cuisine

Looking for a way to get involved as a group? Have fun learning about other cultures and customs while showing hospitality and helping internationals practice speaking English. Time, place and transportation are arranged by your group. Training is provided for all group members. Multiple groups are needed with a minimum 3-month commitment. Click here for more info.

 

Volunteer to take students grocery shopping or other types of shopping
